This coil is 8.10 cm in diameter. Its width is 6.30 cm. It was used to measure the magnetic susceptibilites of hematite and magnetite samples in the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum with the Sapphire Instruments system. This is outlined in the CSM Geology Museum Magnetic Susceptibility Measurements section of this website. This coil was also used to measure the inductance of soil samples in the custom LCR meter setup. The soil samples were placed in sample jars and the full sample jars were placed in the coil. Q-tips were taped to the coil and used as guides to ensure that the sample jar was in the same position for each measurement. This is outlined in the Custom LCR Meter Magnetic Susceptibility Measurements section of this website.
